Digital Literacy Course

This course was developed using internet safety learning objectives of Fort Bend ISD.  In this school district, internet safety is a required course for all students.  While learning goals have been established, learning activities and objectives are the responsibility of the instructor.  Typically, students receive 1 or 2 lessons each 9 weeks on a specific topic.  Lessons in this unit have been designed for a blended learning environment and learning experiences can range from 45 minutes to an hour for in-class, face-to-face instruction with 2+ hours per lesson allocation for independent learning activities and project-based experiences.  The course was developed because of the roll out of a new learning management system (LMS) in our school district.  The 2018-2019 school year was the first year that all students engaged with the curriculum through the LMS.  Though teachers had access to curriculum resources on this topic stored within the LMS, there was a need for a structured course on internet safety designed for a blended learning environment, to serve as an exemplar for utilizing LMS features.  This was developed for elementary teachers and librarians across the district to use, and contains a number of multimedia features and resources to fulfill instructional requirements in a fun and engaging way.
